Mischo Style Icon: Dorothy Dandridge



Dorothy Dandridge is this week's Mischo Style Icon! She rose to stardom in the 1950's both as a singer and actress. In 1954 she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her role in the film Carmen Jones. Though she didn't win the award, she was the first black actress to receive such an honorable nomination. Dorothy's sophisticated look and classic style made her a timeless beauty icon. Finally in 1959, she won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in the musical Porgy and Bess. -Laura

Mischo Style Front Row View To: Susan Woo



Susan Woo, a New-York based fashion designer presented her Spring 2010, eco-friendly debut collection during New York Fashion Week. In her earth-conscious collection, she introduced the organic-wool-and-silk MLBD- "modern little black dress". Susan Woo's collection can be described as chic, sophisticated and "badass!". Susan said, "Being eco-friendly; it's about being socially responsible from start to finish. This brand allows people to really feel good about what they're buying." Susan's collection is produced in New York and factories in California that follow fair labor practices and energy-efficient practices. (Vogue, December 2009).

Susan isn't new to the fashion industry. She attended Cornell University, where she became interested in eco-friendly products and gained her inspiration to design. She also trained with Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Derek Lam. -Laura

Now I'm sure we all know who Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was! Wife of President John F. Kennedy, and later known as Jackie O., we remember her classic style of the 1960's. Simple, yet elegant and classic, her style often consisted of semi-fitted jackets, A-line skirts falling below the knees, big over-sized sunglasses, and her signature pillbox hats and pumps. Mischo Style Front Row View To: Riccardo Tisci



This week's "Front Row View To" designer is Riccardo Tisci. He's an Italian fashion designer who studied at Central Saint Martin's College of Art & Design in London. After graduating, he began designing his own collection while working for companies such as Puma. Riccardo's elegant and romantic collection was finally shown during Milan Fashion Week for Fall 2005/2006.

Riccardo was named the creative director of Givenchy in 2005 for the womenswear and haute couture divisions. In 2008 he was named the artistic advisor for the menswear and accessories divisions. Besides designing for Givenchy, he also creates stage costumes for Madonna! Riccardo Tisci has come a long way in the fashion industry, especially within the Givenchy label. Mischo Style Icon: Diane von Furstenberg



Diane Von Furstenberg (DVF) has become a legendary fashion designer. Did you know DVF was considered a powerful fashion icon in the 1970's because she sold 5 million knitted jersey wrap dressed in 1976? It's amazing how she designed an iconic dress that fits every body type and is still in style today!

DVF re-launched her fashion line in 1997 with the same iconic dress she had designed back in 1976. Until this day, DVF is considered an upscale luxurious label. DVF is a fashion authority- she's currently the president for the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). Her designs symbolize female power and freedom. Mischo Style Review: Style A to Zoe: The Art of Fashion, Beauty, & Everything Glamour by Rachel Zoe



Like I mentioned before, there are so many style books out there that offer style advice. But, one of my favorites is "Style A to Zoe: The Art of Fashion, Beauty, & Everything Glamour" by Rachel Zoe (star of her own reality TV show on Bravo, The Rachel Zoe Project.). Her book offers style, entertainment and home decor advice.

Rachel Zoe gives practical advice on developing your own personal style on any budget. Her style advice includes must-have wardrobe basics and accessories, and how to build upon them. As she has stated, "When your styling a look be yourself. Don't copy, but draw inspiration. Interpret it". If you don't know who Rachel Zoe is, well she is considered the most powerful Hollywood stylist, at the moment. Her celebrity clients include Jennifer Gardner, Salma Hayek and Demi Moore to name a few! -Laura

But, what I love most is that she's posing in the parking lot of Costco (too funny!)- just goes to show that you can't take everything so seriously... you must seize every moment and enjoy them!

Mischo Style Front Row View To: Caroline Seikaly



Our first fashion designer to be featured on "Mischo Style Front Row View To" is Caroline Seikaly. For the first time this year she debuted 15 looks from her Spring/Summer and Resort 2010 Collections during New York Fashion Week. Caroline's designs can be described as feminine, elegant, romantic and timeless- and her debut was a success. One of her designs, a sheer black lace dress, has already been worn by Hayden Panettiere and Madonna!

She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Apparel Design from The Rhode Island School of Design. While attending school, she was an intern with Issac Mizrahi in New York City. After graduating, she went back to Paris to gain experience in the world of "haute couture" with Christian Lacroix, and later with Karl Lagerfeld. With a background and experience in both fashion and design, she says, "I have two sides, my very romantic side and my graphic side, which is more about clean lines." (Vogue, October 2009) -Laura
